Dr Steve Rintoul
Dr Rintoul is a physical oceanographer and climate scientist with a long-standing interest in the Southern Ocean and its role in the earth system. He is a CSIRO Fellow and leader of the Oceans program at the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems CRC. He has been heavily involved in the design and implementation of ocean observing systems for the last twenty years and has led thirteen oceanographic expeditions to the Southern, Indian and Pacific Oceans. Dr Rintoul has recently taken on co-leadership of the Bluewater and Climate Node of the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS). He is a Coordinating Lead Author of the Oceans chapter in the 5th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). His scientific achievements have been recognised by a number of national and international awards.
