Directors Update – February 2021

From February to late October, TERN will be focused on the 2021 Research Infrastructure Roadmap consultation process due to be launched imminently by the Australian Department of Education, Skills and Employment. TERN hopes its ecosystem community will engage strongly and generously with the Roadmap consultations to set the national priorities for Australian research infrastructure over the next decade.

Global Ecosystem Research Infrastructure (GERI) agreement signed

The managing institutions that operate six different continental-scale ecosystem observing infrastructures, from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America (two from Europe), signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding, expressly committing to the development of the first-ever Global Ecosystem Research Infrastructure (GERI).

Directors Update – November 2020

Under the recently released 2020 Research Infrastructure Investment Plan, TERN will receive an additional $5.89M in 2022-23. The funding will allow TERN to continue integrating data from its multi-scale ecosystem observatory and to support TERN’s participation in global ecosystem research infrastructure initiatives.

Director’s Update – September 2020

Congratulations to Professor Hugh Possingham on his appointment as Queensland’s Chief Scientist and to ICOS, the Integrated Carbon Observation System in Europe, on their 2020 science conference. Compliments should also go to the more than 30 dedicated TERN people who have just wrapped up a virtual strategic planning day, refreshing the prioritisation of TERN’s core data packages and signature products.
